“GROWING UP IN THE ISLANDS THE TRENDS HIT US LAST” *FXSHJUNKE SPOTLIGHT* FT PRINCE LIFTED

Today’s Fxshnjunke Spotlight features 22 year old Shaquille Adams aka Prince Lifted who has stunned us with his unique and creative style and is an all around inspiration for male aspiring bloggers. Originally from St. Croix, which is a beautiful island in the US Virgin Islands and now resides in New York City Prince talks with us about how he is making it in fashion industry, explains to us what his fashion favorites are and more !

Dasia: Tell me something about yourself ?

Prince: My real name is Shaquille Adams, for those who don’t know. I was born and raised on the beautiful island of St. Croix, US Virgin Islands until I was 17 years old and I am one of four siblings.

Dasia: When did you know you that wanted to be a part of the fashion industry ?

Prince: I’ve sort of always been into fashion. Not in the sense where I know every major designer or can name every model in the industry but I’ve always been interested in trend forecasting. My mother gave me a lot of freedom when it came to buying my own clothes and getting myself dressed at a very young age. Growing up in the islands, fashion trends usually hit us last but I always wanted to be a step ahead. I was that kid that would travel to the States during the summer and come back with a new trend. Whether it was wearing my jeans skinnier and having a more tailored silhouette versus the baggy style that everyone else was on, I always tried to take baby steps out of everyone else’s comfort zone with how I wore my clothing. I also watched a lot of fashion related shows, from ANTM and Make Me a Supermodel to Project Runway. I was always obsessed with fashion but never knew what I could contribute to the industry or if it was even possible for me.

Dasia: How did you come up with the name Prince Lifted ?

Prince: One of my best friends, Amani. When we first met in college, I was freshman from the Virgin Islands so my accent was a little thick. I always had a lot of money (in her opinion) so she’d always call me the Prince of the Virgin Islands. My handle went from Instaprince to PrinceLifted and I’ve kept it ever since.

Dasia: Most people who don’t know, you are a personal shopper for one of the most high quality fashionable companies in the world, Topshop. How long have you been with the company ?

Prince: I’ve been with Topshop for a little over a year and a half now.

Dasia: What do you like most about personal shopping ? How long have you been doing it ?

Prince: I’ve been doing personal shopping seriously for a year now. I’d have to say my favorite part about it is the clients. I meet some of the most interesting people at work. From business executives to celebrities, it’s never a dull day.

Dasia: How has working with Topshop/Topman helped your career in the fashion industry ?

Prince: Being with Topshop/Topman has helped me brand myself a lot more both with the company and individually. I work closely with the social media and marketing team as well so that has definitely been a big help. Also, in personal shopping, we have several events a year for our clients and work with industry insiders on a day to day basis. So everything from studio pulls and press events, I’m involved a lot of the times.

Dasia: Aside of personal shopping what other things do you enjoy doing?

Prince: I have this thing where I’ll randomly cast a model, style them and shoot them. I’m really into creative direction, styling and photography. A lot of people don’t know that photography was my first love. It was one of my earliest creative outlets back in high school and I originally wanted to pursue a career in fashion photography which is also what introduced me to modeling.

Dasia: Your style is A1 ! I love seeing how creative your looks are and I love reposting them on Fxshnjunke, How would you describe your style ?

Prince: This is always the hardest thing for me to do! I’m definitely versatile with the way I dress. It’s always based on how I’m feeling that day but my look is always edgy. I try to always mix trendy pieces with timeless favorites to create my own original look. On any given day I’m more than likely wearing something expensive with something super affordable for that high-low effect.

Dasia: You were apart of a duo fashion lifestyle blog called The Commendable with Denzel B ( which I loved ! ), what inspired you guys to create this blog ? Is it still active ?

Prince: Yes! We’re definitely still active! Both Denzel and I are extremely critical and only want to give our audience the best possible content. We actually just did a huge project with one of our favorite menswear brands!

Dasia: Did you attend the most recent NYFW ? If so, what did you think about the shows you attended ? Was this your first NYFW ?

Prince: I decided not to attend last fashion week but I did attend Men’s Fashion Week. I enjoyed the shows but for some reason NYFWM is becoming more and more predictable each year. It’s starting to lack excitement and that shock factor that’s very present overseas. No, this wasn’t my first fashion week. I think I’ve attended every fashion week since I moved to New York, if I’m not mistaking.

Dasia: New York is one of the most fashion forward cities in the US for anyone who wants  to succeed in the fashion industry, what is some advice you can give someone who wants to move to NY to further their career in the fashion industry ?

Prince: As lame as this may sound, stay true to yourself and your vision. It’s very easy to get lost in the hype while chasing a dream here in New York. It’s okay to get distracted but don’t lose sight of the bigger picture. Take advantage of every resource here in the city and know that not every opportunity is a good one. Never waste a day. Hard work pays off.

Dasia: Favorite places to shop ?

Prince: Topshop/Topman ! I promise I’m not being paid to say that. It’s legitimately one of my favorite stores, even before I joined the company. It’s always on trend, and not in a bad way. Opening Ceremony is also one of my faves for a good statement piece. Oak NYC, Is also a store I loveeeee. They only sell black and white clothing with some neutrals from time to time. Zara women- I’m really into their statement jeans (Don’t judge me) but I won’t give away all of my spots.

Dasia: Lol its okay ! I dont like sharing all my good spots either ! What are some of your must have fall trends ?

Prince: Metallics are really in this season as tacky as it may sound! The right statement piece can elevate your outfit in such a premium way. An oversized bomber, western inspired shirts and jackets, statement denim, wide leg trousers and the perfect boot, are some of my must haves, just to name a few.

Dasia: When did you notice Fxshnjunke ? What are your thoughts about it ?

Prince: A loooonnnnggggg time ago. I think I was still living in Atlanta at the time but you guys reposted one of my photos. I love how organic you guys are. Most fashion social media platforms are becoming very similar. Its less about the fashion, more about who’s wearing it but Fxshnjunke is different.

Dasia: Yessss I love that, thank you so much ! What are some of your goals for 2017 ?

Prince: To have clear skin and be stress free! Just kidding, I just want to progress in my personal brand as well as my blog. I also want to meet Rihanna again and take another trip out of the country.

Dasia: Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years ?

Prince: This will question I won’t answer because I don’t want to jinx it. Hopefully you guys are still tuned in five years from now. I just want to be the best version of myself and inspire others.

Dasia: We’re definitely gonna keep watching 🙂
